FeatureRole-Based Permissions

The right keys.
To the right people.

Four fixed roles built around how construction crews actually work. Assign one and the access is already correct — costs stay private, inventory stays intact, and nobody has to be trusted with a setting they don’t understand.

01 / The four roles

Four roles. Complete coverage.

02 / How roles work together

A chain of command your crew already understands

Three tiers, mapped to the way a construction company is actually organized. Authority flows down, shop assignment cuts across, and nobody can grant themselves more than they were given.

The Account Owner is the only role that can create or modify an Admin.
Admins can create Managers and Field users — but never another Admin.
Shop assignment is separate: a user keeps their role and is scoped to the shops they work in.
Managers oversee Field users but cannot create accounts.
Field users hold no management capability at all.
Top tierAccount OwnerWhole account
One per account, ultimate authority

Second tierAdminsWhole organization

Significant permissions, but they can never create or edit another Admin
Base tierManagers & Field UsersCrew / self
Managers oversee field teams and approve their transfers
Field users check tools in and out and report issues
Focused on daily operations, nothing administrative
03 / In action

Five Tuesdays that would have gone badly

Ordinary situations where the role assignment is the only thing standing between a normal day and a bad one.

ProblemWhat the role doesImpact
Preventing an accidental deletion

A new field worker exploring the app clicks Delete on a whole tool category.

The In the Field role has no delete permission, so the action never executes.

Data protected, nothing to restore, and the worker carries on without an incident report.

Protecting your pricing

Tool costs and purchasing strategy are a competitive advantage you don’t want circulating.

Only the Account Owner and Admins can see cost data. Managers and Field users cannot.

Sensitive numbers stay in the office, even when someone leaves for a competitor.

Keeping one shop’s business in one shop

You run four shops, and the Riverside crew shouldn’t have to wade through Lakeside’s inventory to find their own.

Shop assignment. The person keeps their role, and their view narrows to the shops they are assigned to.

Each shop’s people work in their own inventory, and nobody trips over anyone else’s.

Promoting a field worker

A reliable worker is promoted to foreman and now needs to approve transfers for a crew.

An Admin switches the role from In the Field to Manager. Permissions change on save.

The new foreman is working at the higher level the same shift — no ticket, no retraining.

Onboarding ten at once

You hired ten field workers and they all start Monday morning.

Create the accounts, assign In the Field to each, and send the invites.

Ten productive users on day one, none of them staring at a screen they can’t use.

Why four fixed roles

Custom permission builders look flexible until somebody clicks the wrong box. We shipped the four roles our own shop needed and left the guesswork out.
